People often complain about the large number of fillers in the original Naruto series, but I tend to think of it this way: I would rather they create fillers while they wait for the manga to get further along than (a) having an extended period with no episodes whatsoever or (b) ending the series all together because they no longer have any manga to work with, which has happened before.

Besides, I didn't personally think that the fillers were as horrible as everyone claims. Granted, they weren't all amazing, but at least some of them had nice little self-contained plots. Also, I don't really mind a little extra characterization, and I think the fillers were kind of like a..."What you didn't see."

I know that when you watch an anime after reading the manga, you're mostly looking for an animated version of what you read. Fillers are especially disappointing when, right before they started, you just knew that that favorite scene of yours was about to come up. Believe me, as a fan of the Harry Potter books, I can certainly sympathize; manga it may not be, but it is so irritating when I'm looking forward to a scene and they either mutilate it beyond recognition or cut it out completely and replace it with some nonsense...by, I digress.

My main point with all of this is that I didn't find the fillers to be all that irritating, and I understand the reasoning behind them. Undoubtedly, however, there were a ton, so I also understand the frustration.

On another note, I didn't at all appreciate the animators including the Double-Knockout Girls technique while completely cutting out its male variant, with all its naked Sai and Sasuke goodness...xDD

Yeah, I also think so. But it's normal if there are people who think otherwise. Although I'm a little disappointed with the plot (they didn't mixed any Sakura arc story and no one knows the real identity of Archer).

Yeah, filler is still alright compared with what they did with Dragon Ball (refer to my previous post). But still, they can make filler actually good (and Naruto's filler is not good).

I agree with filler is something that you don't/can't see in manga, like CCS (Card Captor Sakura). CCS fillers are awesome that I didn't get bored even the slightest during 3 years of air time. They told how Sakura catch every single card (while in manga, they skip around).

Usually, filler is used to make gap/time lag between manga and anime. Of course there are lots of technique besides filler and each of it has their own good and bad.
1. Filler: filling the episodes with original plot that doesn't exist in manga version. Example: Card Captor Sakura (the best filler I've known), Naruto, One Piece, Dragon Ball
Good: keep up the hype, buy more time to wait for the manga (just hope the mangaka won't suddenly broke his finger or possessed by Idol Master
Bad: could wreck story consistency, could anger the fan if the filler is bad, expensive.
2. Create original ending: finish the anime anytime they want with original plot (the mangaka still have to give his OK before they could air it). Example: Trigun, Chrono Crusade, FMA
Good: doesn't left any unfinished business
Bad: could leave bad after-taste if done incorrectly (like Chrono Crusade), expensive
3. Stop the anime: end the season 1, to be continued in season 2 but not anytime soon. Example : Inuyasha, Elfen Lied, Gun Slinger Girls, Kekkaishi
Good: cheap, could buy as many time as needed
Bad: could kill the hype
4. OK, the latest technique, only founded recently... which is after technique number 2... After that just make the remake of anime, but this time stay "truer" with the manga. Example: I only know FMA: Brotherhood
Good: making more money from anime that supposed to be finished long time ago.
Bad: only applicable with manga that extremely popular

5. Filler(2): the filler technique which I don't like at all. You just need to prolong the staring contest, panning and zooming, flashback, and any dirty trick to waste air time. Example: Dragon Ball, Naruto (only a bit though)
Good: cheap... very cheap
Bad: eating fans from inside... but it works so who cares?

Well, that's all technique to make more time/increase the gap between anime and manga. Anyone know other kind of techniques?

I have to admit that the flashbacks in Naruto do get rather annoying. I suppose it'd be helpful for someone who hasn't watched in a while, but for someone who watches new episodes as they are released, the extensive use of flashbacks seems rather ridiculous and detracts from my overall enjoyment.

Especially the same flashback multiple times, or a flashback to something that occurred earlier in the episode...>.o;;

I don't mind the flashbacks, as long as they contribute to the plot. When it's a flashback you've already shown (in a very recent episode), however, like when
Itachi recruits Deidara
, it's kinda pointless and annoying.

6: Camp on the mangaka's behind to keep them ahead of the anime. Sailor Moon for most of its run (the filler arc in R aside).

Good: no need for filler.
Bad: kinda hard to do, since usually the mangaka doesn't answer to the people writing the anime, and even if they do they can be temperamental artists.

(Of course, in the case of Sailor Moon, the people writing the anime and the mangaka never had particularly good relations in the first place.)

What! They really do that to the mangaka? Do the mangaka get bonus or something... Or the anime company threaten the mangaka? (If you want still in this business, draw faster, hehehe)

Mm. After checking up, I got things mixed up; that didn't happen in Sailor Moon. Which means "treat my last statement with the gravest suspicion until I find out where I got this particular theory from."

Exactly how much control the meddling executives have over the mangaka varies, though.

first we have the marvelous Monster which has been mentioned several times now. Naruto would be much improved without the immense amount of filler material. Noein I liked but I have no idea what actually happens in the story. also the anime for claymore actually cut my favorite scene from the manga by deviating from the manga right before it came up

Simply for me it is any anime that has been taken from a manga and changed due to low budget or an attempt to keep it short. Like the Rosario+Vampire series as the manga is still going strong but they changed more than I wanted in the anime and left important parts out.

There are a few series that between my husband and I we can't handle whatsoever.

First off is Bleach. I gave it a shot, really. After about three episodes or so, I just gave up and went to watch YuYuHakusho instead. At least Yusuke Urameshi was likable, and his supporting cast kept me interested. Hiei and Kurama were great. Bleach didn't have characters that stuck with me, and I really don't see the appeal of Orihime or Rukia!

Second? Naruto. I read the manga when it first debuted in Shounen Jump. I loved Kakashi. Once it got to the point where they were escorting some guy to the Mangrowth trees or whatever, I just lost interest. I don't really remember it, and that was the main problem of Naruto for me, it felt like an overacted generic story.

I will admit that I enjoyed InuYasha until I felt like it jumped the shark at the moment Kagura and Kanna showed up. Okay, I get it. Naraku can take a part of his body and make it into a new bad guy. We see that!

My husband loves Sakura Tensei, but I couldn't really get much into it...

Isn't that, like, 90% of all anime?

True that most animes are like that but i'm speaking strickly on ones that either change the ending entirely or theme entirely because of the costs or, the most often, they do it to change the audience. Like taking a lot of the violence out just to allow for a wider audience rating. That's why I have to love one's like the current Dance in the Vampire Bund who aren't afraid to keep the TV-MA rating to keep the anime more in touch with the manga.

Also, filler doesn't mess up an anime for me as long as they stay on track. Those fillers in Naruto I understand because they wanted to give enough time for Kishimoto to work on the manga; but they did go a little overboard. Hey, they got to sell an extra set of DVD volumes because of it.

Another pet pieve I thought of was ending animes to early. Naruto, Bleach, and One Piece are going to follow the series to the end but others that end as I said, with either the a different ending entirely or they just stop part way. I think they should account for that before they get my hopes up.

The anime I really can't stand is Shin-Chan. I guess I'm too mature for it.

I don't really agree if Shin-chan is for kids (only), considering how blatant its content is...
