Xenopathy [Space|Sci-Fi|Noir|BxB|Mystery] for Yaoijam

Nurse "Can you hear me?"

"The noise -- a voice -- cuts through the stillness, sharp against your ears."
"His ears?"
"Your ears, now."

Nurse "Open your eyes."

"You do, slowly, and immediately your senses are flooded with a harsh light."

Nurse "Subject 317. Can you hear me?"

"Your eyes slowly adjust, and you can make out a figure -- a human -- standing in front of you."

Axton "Yeah. We're... he's here."

"The sound comes from your mouth -- his mouth? -- and echos within your skull in a way that you find peculiar."
"You try to pull yourself out of the -- chair, was it? -- and almost immediately topple forward. Axton catches the two of you and helps you stand upright."

Xenopathy is a collaboration project made by PMscenarios, Bobconway and SoulsoftEA (and maybe a BG artist? We're still looking) for yaoijam this June/July.

In the future humanity has taken to the skies,and explored quite a bit of space. Xenopathy takes place in the Trappist-1 system, on Mining Base 913 - nicknamed "the Trap" by it's inhabitants, and follows a visiting alien on his vacation exploring the colony, and human senses.

The Ishin aliens have the ability to transfer their minds into willing hosts - sharing the space with the excising consciousness.
The first host is a shy, in-love bioengineer who hopes the alien can give him the confidence he needs to ask out the person of his dreams, but things don't go as planned, and when the alien returns to the mine base and the second host, it's for a much more urgent, and darker reason.

I've been posting updates sporadically on twitter and tumblr, if anyone is interested in following along.

We've been hard at work this first week, a lot of script has been written, world has been built, and our main cast is designed!

Axton - the shy scientist, Cian - the street-smart companion, and Bethan - the round friend

Axton is the first person the alien inhabits when he comes to the trap as a mind-tourist. Shy, anxious and obsessed with his work, Axton spends most of his time working on maintaining and improving the mining base's artificial atmosphere.
He's signed up as a host to learn more about this brand new species, and maybe get some much needed help to move things along with his crush - Bethan.

Bethan is just a very kind and sociable round friend. Always making the best out of the situation, they get along with practically anyone.
Formerly a miner foreman, they're now working as a cook at an independent food cart outside Axton's offices.

Cian is the second host the alien inhabits when he returns to the mining base. Cian normally works as a "pleasure companion", and has signed up for the host program to have a much needed vacation, and also earn some extra money. He's soon dragged into everything that's been happening, and utilizes his connections to help the alien in his head with his new mission.


Seriously, tho. SoulsoftEA has done an amazing job on the sprite roughs so far, and is full-speed working on Bethan atm.

Bob has practically finished the first half of the game, writing, transitions and programming is practically done, and when music and bgs are staged we have a playable prototype! Hopefully the second half of the game gets completed this month

In a future where humanity has taken to the stars, and where alien symbiotes can temporarily share a willing human host's body, play as an alien thrown into the middle of an awkward romance and mystery.

Xenopathy is a hybrid romance/mystery visual novel that was written, drawn, and coded in two months for Yaoijam 2018. It currently features:

- ~20,000 words
- 2 ending variations (that will further branch in the second part)
- The final game is expected to be around 40,000 words with at least three distinct endings.
