Getting assets out of games?

#1 Post by Anarchy » Fri Sep 23, 2011 12:22 pm

I lost all my files today, but I'd built a distribution for my game and uploaded it to the internet. Is there any way of getting my art assets out of that?

Did you compress your data into a .rpa file before building distributions? If not, all your files are sitting inside the "game" folder.

Also, *whack* BACK UP YOUR GAMES, dummy!

Yeah! Don't make the same mistake as me :D
Find an USB or DVD and just put everything there. Because you don't know when your devices just decide to move to another plane of existence.

I'm able to extract assets out of a .rpa, so that's not killer. I can also get some scripts out of the .rpyc files.

I got my files! Thanks so much!

Ahaha, I know I should back my files up, but I don't have an USB drive or DVDs... I'll zip my files and upload them to mediafire or something from now on though, haha.

If you have a few hours of free time to understand and learn how to use it, git is your best friend. It can even let you jump back to a previous version, should you mess things up and you can keep a copy of your progress online too. github offers free repositories to do that.
It's a must-have anyway when working in a group. :P
