Tutorial isn't working (issue #2) Power PC related. (SOLVED)

#1 Post by joey.wheeler.kaiba » Mon Feb 20, 2012 1:12 am

"You cannot open the application "renpy" because it is not supported on this system."

I use a Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger. Is there an earlier version I was supposed to download? It says that it should work on my computer and I was so excited to do this in my free time. Do you guys have any helpful advice to getting this to work? Thank you in advance.

Update: So I found the Power PC support download on the download site. I downloaded it. It will now let me open the launcher. When I try to play the tutorial it gives me this error:

I'm sorry, but an uncaught exception occurred.

After initialization, but before game start.
Exception: Textures are not rendering properly.

Are you using a PowerPC mac?

I don't know. It is an eMac. Is that a Power PC? It is pretty old. Most applications don't work on it. How would I find that out?

**EDIT- Yeah I guess it is. So I guess there is no way to use it?

You need to force software rendering. Holding down shift while the game is starting should bring up a screen that lets you choose what renderer to use (though I think some Macs may have trouble with that - but it worked on at least one of my test machines, which are both Tiger-based PPCs that don't properly handle OpenGL in Ren'Py.).

On 6.12.2 (and likely other versions of Ren'Py, but I haven't tested it), adding

Code: Select all

python early:
    config.gl_enable=False
to your options.rpy (or any .rpy file, actually) will disable OpenGL entirely for your game (note that this will _ALSO_ disable it for other people you send your game to.)

If I recall correctly, you can also disable OpenGL by setting the environment variable

Code: Select all

RENPY_RENDERER=sw
Ren'Py will load environment variables from environment.txt in the same directory as the .app.
Nom nom nom nom nom LEAVES.

So... now the issue is that I don't apparently have anything that can read the text so I can edit it in the first place. Do you guys know something I can download for that?
