RenPy randomly crashes.

#1 Post by RedJ » Sun Mar 11, 2012 12:54 pm

I am trying to create a small Visual Novel for NaNoReMo using RenPy, but while testing out the parts that I've written so far it keeps crashing at random moments:

-It crashes at different moments, I have seen no pattern. It might crash very quick, or it might take a few minutes before it crashes. It simply stops displaying any more text, stopping in the middle of a word or sentence, and then hangs, forcing me to close it trough the Task Manager.

errors.txt and traceback.txt do not get updated when this problem occurs.

I am using:
Windows-Vista-6.0.6001-SP1
Ren'Py 6.13.8.1675

I did not change much of the standard settings of RenPy: I just made a new game to see if the problem would still happen:
My settings are:
-Using the Diamond+Colorblind skin.
-I am using NVL to display what is said.
-I have only changed one line in the options.rpy, the "config.default_text_cps = 0" to "config.default_text_cps = 40"

Can anybody tell me what is going on, and how I might be able to fix this problem?

I have no idea what could be wrong, but...
Have you tried running in software rendering mode?
Do you have the same problem with other Ren'py games?
Do you see a spike in CPU usage when the game locks?
Did you check the OS's event log?
Keep your script in your Dropbox folder.
It allows you to share files with your team, keeps backups of previous versions, and is ridiculously easy to use.
