Launcher Issue - Ren'Py 6.13.12.1728 Editors under Ubuntu

#1 Post by EwanG » Sat Apr 21, 2012 7:47 am

Installed the Linux version of Ren'Py under my /home/ewang directory (so /home/ewang/renpy-6.13.12). System comes up fine and lets me setup a directory for a new game, etc. Also runs and shows me the default screen in the selected color and theme. When I go to "Edit Script" I get an "Error - Launching the Editor Failed" statement. I thought the issue might be with JEdit since I'm fairly sure Ubuntu doesn't install Java by default. So I DL'd the SciTE editor and installed it in it's own directory under RenPy. Went into options and selected it, then went to Editor and selected SciTE. Back to "Edit Script" and the same error.

Setup is Ubuntu 12.04 beta 2 64-bit on a core i7 with 9 gigs of RAM. nVidia graphics using the recommended nVidia driver. In case any of the above matters.
Working on something... might even be something good :D

In the category of "duh"... turns out that SciTE when it installs does not install the Linux Executable or the Scite shell script file with +x properties. Adding +x to each allows the launcher to launch them. Not sure whether it would be possible to set them up that way in the archive?
