Help with a few things

#1 Post by DragonaTalon127 » Tue Jun 12, 2012 11:27 pm

I have a few more problems with Ren'Py and I would really appreciate some help ASAP. I'm sure they have really simple answers and I'm just an idiot but oh well.

First problem I'm having is hiding the text or dialogue box. I have a screen where I just want a picture but the stupid dialog box won't move. I've looked on the forums and on google and I haven't found anything to help me. (although I'm sure there is but I just didn't look in the right places.) So basically I need a code or something like that to hide it.

Also I can't seem to get a page to show up unless I type a dialogue in the box. I don't know if this has to do with the fact that the text box is there. I'm wondering if it will be solved if I am able to get rid of the box on that page, or if I have to use a completely different code to make the screen show up without dialogue.

Anyway I hope someone can explain this! :)

What exactly are you trying to do? Can we see your code?

In general, the dialogue box only shows up if someone's actally saying something. But then, ren'py won't pause if you're just showing an image; it will run on past that to the next dialogue. If you have something like

Code: Select all

a "Blah blah blah"
show coolpic
b "More blah blah blah"
Then the second text box will show up on top of the picture. If you wanted the game to wait for the player to click before moving past the picture, add a pause:

Code: Select all

a "Blah blah blah"
show coolpic
$ renpy.pause()
b "More blah blah blah"

Well I can't really give you a code because I'm not trying to do it for this Project I just don't know how to do it in general.

I'll give you an example tho. Below is a screenshot. Ignore the fact that there is text in the box. Let's say I'd want to get rid of the box. When ever I try to make it so that it is just a background with no texts at all it still shows the dialog box even if i never typed in anything to be said on that page. So instead of just a background I'd have a text box as well but with no words in it. Do you get what I'm saying?

Does the pause command work?

Code: Select all

label start:
    "Click 1"

    pause

    "Click 3"

Oh! Thanks! I didn't put a pause in and that's why it wasn't working. -_-' I feel silly now. Lol anyway Thank you very much!
