Making text appear gradually? Transparent textboxes?
I'm not quite sure what the actually name for this is but I wanted the text to appear gradually (as in it looks like it's actually being written, or sort of fading into existence
) while reading. Does anyone know how to do this? I also wanted to know if you could make text boxes see-through so you can see what's behind it. Any help is appreciated, thanks!

I don't think Ren'Py supports fading in text at the moment.
In order to make a transparent textbox you need to make a translucent frame for it in Photoshop or whatever program you make
your displayables with. Then add it to your say screen using styles.
Take a look at screens.rpy file of your game if you haven't yet. That's where your game screens are defined.

To make the text appear slowly, consider adjusting text_speed from preferences.

Sorry for necrobumping, but i'm also looking for a way to make textboxes transparent through code.
On rolling text though, what i imagine most people would be looking for is:
in options.rpy. (100 is a nice value to have, cps stands for characters per second. I also figured out if you're doing something like a computer terminal, 10 is a cool looking speed.)

Code: Select all
config.default_text_cps = 100Who is online
