This is probably a dumb question about music usage

#1 Post by ZombieeDoll » Wed Aug 01, 2012 10:15 pm

I'm entirely new to the VN scene and am interested in making a novel of my own. I'm aware then the Ren'Py engine supports many file formats. My question is if I wanted to create a FREE novel for sh*ts and giggles, would I have to use music under a certain license and if so, what are the best file formats?

There is a novel I want to create for a group of friends featuring a song by Supercell, but I'm not entirely sure that's allowed. They will not be paying for anything and the rest will be my art work, story, and/or free stock songs, sound effects, backgrounds, etc.

If you want to use music which isn't your/you didn't paid the use, you have to look for Creative common / royaltie free music. Often they are "Attribution" which means you just have to put the name of the composer somwhere in the credits, sometimes they can ask "non commercial works", etc etc.

They are some site to find that kind of thing, like Jamendo etc .

And yeah you're officially not supposed to use the supercell thing depending on your country law maybe.. (in France we have some right for parody works), but hmm I don't think it's a problem if you just give this novel to your friends.

edit : also it's a bit like posting a remix or featuring on youtube, in general people don't bother to make problems for that - I think it's like fan works around there, for which Pytom said unless they're asked to remove them by the owner of the rights, they let them as it.
