Possibility of running online?
Is it at all possible for me to create a game and store it online so that whoever downloads it doesn't get the whole file system?
When I package a finished product i see that when unzipped it contains all the files, images, music, etc and i may not want that available to the general public.
So...is there an online version available? or a way to safeguard the contents
thank you

Re: Possibility of running online?
Being able to run Ren'py games online would be wonderful but that's not possible for numerous reasons.
Though you can "Archive" your data when building, to prevent 95% of people to access these (it's impossible to totally protect data anyway). That put the data in a data.rpa file so people don't see the floders and the files into like usual.

I think you're not asking online but e-license/Diablo 3 kind of thing from what it sounds.
Can't help but maybe rephrasing topic would get more answers cause you might get http://webstoryengine.org/ and javascript renpy answers instead.

Re: Possibility of running online?
I will rephrase it and be very detailed so that I can get my exact question through.
Please bare in mind that I am very very very new and am learning from the ground up so be very patient with me as i am not at the level many of you are at.....in other words think of me as a 4 year old child asking why the sky is blue.
Ok......
After I am done with my project I will build distribution. it will give me a finished product in a zip file. this file i then submit to my server so people can download it and play the game. However when they unzip the file the will get all of my images, videos, music, audio.....Some of these files I might not want to have freely available. I am looking for away that the people who download the game will not have access to the source files used in making the game
(videos, audio, images, etc)
In a perfect situation I could store these files online and keep them away from the majority of people downloading the product.
If online storage of source files are not possible then is there any other way to protect these source files?
I hope that has explained what I am trying to find an answer to.
Thank you all for your help.

You can tell Ren'Py to put them in an archive file.
This protects them from casual use by most people - people have to take an additional step to extract the files. The sort of people who use this extraction tool would have no problem with using a tool to extract images from an http stream, so the protection archives provide is likely good enough.

Aweasome. Thank you very much for this. Tomorrow I will test it out...I am nowhere near finished but am curious as to how it would look.PyTom wrote:You can tell Ren'Py to put them in an archive file.

And to think....All of this because my 17 year old son asked me to try his favorite VN Katawa Shoujo and I fell in love with the entire concept and had to try it out for myself!
thank you to everyone who has been so helpful.
