I am creating my first ever visual novel using renpy (yep imma noob at this) And I know my story and have my characters and backgrounds. I have started the script but the thing is when I make the menu things and do one, if I click the top one and it ends it goes straight onto the second one instead of going onto the next scene! I have tried everything but it doesn't work! Please help!
Also how do you make a character on screen leave the screen like it's just the background?
Please help sooo much! And if my VN gets good reviews I'll be making a sequel
Thanks!

You can use the jump label and jump to the next scene.
Code: Select all
Menu:
"Blah Blah":
jump 1
"Blah Blah 2":
jump 2
label 1:
"Lucy still owe me apology."
jump owe
label 2:
"Hit Mugen"
jump hit
label owe:
"Continue with jumps"
label hit:
"Jump hit!"
Oh yeah.. That is hide whatever the name is...
Good luck with your game. :3

Ignorant newbie here. Early apology if wrong interpretation.
label <insert name>
Example:
menu:
Munch Munch
jump Fist Pump
Punch Punch
jump Munchies
label Fist Pump:
...and so the cookies became cakes.
label Munchies:
...and so the munchies thief got away.
For characters, all I know is replace show with hide.

For future reference, please direct technical questions to the Ren'Py Questions and Announcements forum: one question per thread, and a thread title that describes your problem so that people can more easily help you!
Now... for your first question, it would have helped if you had posted your code, but here's the
relevant topic in the documentation. Did you forget to specify where to jump at the end of your labels?
Secondly, to make a sprite onscreen disappear:
Code: Select all
show bread
"Monsieur Baguette" "Ahh, what a wonderful day to exist as a baked good!"
"Parisian Street Orphans" "Look, unattended bread! So delicious!"
hide bread
"Crumbs of Monsieur Baguette" "Alas, such is life!"
Here's the relevant topic in the docs for that, too.
"It is [the writer's] privilege to help man endure by lifting his heart,
by reminding him of the courage and honor and hope and pride
and compassion and pity and sacrifice which have been the glory of his past."
— William Faulkner

Then you might want to check out this tutorial, it's specifically for beginners:

However, come back here if you need help. The people over there take a ... while to answer, where the folks over here answer pretty darned quick. Just remember to do as Sapphi says and post your questions in the Renpy Questions and Announcements part of the forum. Also, be sure to read the sticky post on How to ask questions.
