Editra, JEdit etc not updating

#1 Post by Oddly Otter »

I've tried several times now to get either to work with ren'py. I've downloaded and moved things and re down loaded and re moved things and re re re and arg. I Just get "downloading update. An error has occurred. File not downloaded. I'm using the most recent version of ren'py or well the one I could DL that is.

What am I doing wrong? How can i get something to work for me! I'm running on XP and have all the correct dl's so it SHOULD work but ti's not. And that's weird. I'm tired of error messages :(

I had the same problem! I'm just a total newbie regarding to Ren'Py but I'll give my best to help you:

Download editra from this site: http://www.renpy.org/latest.html -> Editra (Windows): renpy-6.14.0-editra-windows.zip

Just unzip that file in your ren'py folder(my folder restrictions look like this: "VN-> Ren'Py-> renpy-6.14.0-sdk-> an inside that folder I unzipped it!)

Now when you start the launcher and click on "edit script" or "edit something else" editra should open in another window showing your script...at least it's working that way with my pc...^^;

Good luck!

Did you unzipped it onto a folder outside of "program" (which causes errors with many games in win7 OS) or "Desktop" (which cause errors in non-ascii OS) ?

I honestly can't remember. I think I unzipped it to a folder on the desktop and then moved said folder to the ren'py folder.

Are you on 6.14.1? This should fix the problem on Windows XP.

If that doesn't work - you don't want to make a folder. You want to just unzip it - which will make a single directory - and then move that single folder into the Ren'Py directory.

I am indeed on 6.14.1. I tried that and I got an error message through Editra and then it disappeared o.O and it has the error on ren'py. I think i'm going to just try to re-dl everything and see if maybe it's ren'py.

EDIT: Nope still din't work :( what am I doing wrong that it crashes editra or gives me errors o.o

EDIT EDIT: I can get editra to run separately but not through ren'py o.o wtf
