Has anyone created a pdf file of the Renpy tutorials / info?

#1 Post by kkffoo »

I find it easier sometimes to print off tutorials so I can read them away from the pc and make notes in pencil etc.
Sometimes I might put a bound book together if there is a lot of information and it is for a program I use a lot.

If someone has already done this formatting and doesn't mind sharing that would be a timesaver.

edit: I have found some pdf manuals on scribd, but must be premium member to download...

You can do this yourself with the Ren'py Help. Everything in the file is up to date and easy enough to print off. You can find more examples at the wiki, though not all the code there is up to date. That's what I would recommend.

I have used the Renpy help pages.

It's just that it works out cheaper to print something at Lulu.com, or somewhere like that, and I get a better result than home printing..but I need a pdf to upload to do that.

Thanks CN.
I did find that, and it would ahve worked for me, despite being a little out of date...but unfortunately to download the pdf you need to join scribd premium which isn't a lot of money, but it tips the balance so it is cheaper to print at home (pdf needed to print off at lulu.com)...

If you feel like taking the time to copy-paste the documentation into a word processor, there are plenty of sites that convert text to PDF. I used to use it for school assignments, until I got a later version of Word that lets you save as a pdf. I don't think I know of anywhere that you can download a PDF for free of it that's already formatted for printing, but you could always be the first to do it.

For .doc files:
http://www.doc2pdf.net/

Other than that, I don't think there is a place other than scribd that has this, and I think the documentation online is more up-to-date anyway. :/

Thanks for the ideas. I did consider trying to copy as much as I could from the tuorials / wiki.
For now though I am taking a mixed approach.
Some things I can cope with online...other need taking away and scribbling on with pencil! So I print them out.
I decided just to get on with my story with the things I could understand right now.
I've simplified the structure.
I'm hoping some of the user created tutorials might be published, which would help a lot for the future!

I think that project is something most people want, but no-one wants to actually contribute to.
"We must teach them through the tools with which they are comfortable."
The #renpy IRC channel is a great place to chat with other devs. Due to the nature of IRC and timezone differences, people probably won't reply right away.

If you'd like to view or use any code from my VN PM me. All code is freely available without restriction, but also without warranty or (much) support.

This was made by creating a single-page html document, and then printing it to a PDF. If anyone knows how to make Latex deal with Chinese or Japanese, let me know, so I can produce a better version.
