Packager breaking the skip function
I really don't know how that happened.
When using Ren'py 5.6.7 to export the latest version to a zip file, when I unpackaged it and ran the program, I found out that the Skip Function no longer worked. I went ahead and tested the exporter with "The Question" that is included with Ren'py and the skip function still doesn't work when I unzip and run it. The skip function works fine when I'm running from the launcher however.

You don't have to. It's just a feature of the packaging utility; it skips over the "saves" directory, which contains the previously read text. It was designed to let the end user start fresh, in case a save file was left behind or something.Fawkes - Feathered Melody wrote:OK now I feel really stupid.
It confused me at first, too. Every VN I've ever seen before I got my hands on Ren'Py skipped everything, no matter whether you've seen it before. I thought the fact that Ren'Py seemed to never skip was a bug until it worked the second time, and I found the preference setting. So you're not alone.

Also, getting rid of the saves gets rid of the persistent data, which stores the set of seen statements. If you don't get rid of this file, skipping will act funny.NetGenSuperstar wrote:It was designed to let the end user start fresh, in case a save file was left behind or something.

I'm actually surprised. I think most VNs default to skipping only read text. It's a far more useful behavior, as otherwise you have to keep a close watch on the text to make sure you don't skip over something new. That sorta defeats the point of skipping, doesn't it?
