How do I do both nvl mode and adv mode?

I wanted to use NVL mode in certain parts of my game, mostly for lengthy narrations or at the endings. But I still wanted to use ADV mode (textbox) overall for the game when the characters speak or when the MC thinks/has short narration moments.

It's been done in Katawa Shoujo, I believe, and they used renpy. So I think it's possible, just can't figure out how.

What I do is define the same character/thing twice, but with different narration. One of them normal and the other one kind=nvl. Maybe it's wierd but it works for me and I've had no trouble with it till now.

Well, this seems fairly easy so far. At least it works lol.
But in the midst of solving this problem, I came across another.

For some reason my side image appears twice when i add in a background image.
