... is there a way to stop Ren'Py creating a ".....save....." directory when it starts ?

The reason being, I would like to run my almost completed game from a CD (which of course is read-only).

At present, it generates an error which isnt helpful !!!

Thanks for any help

Andrew

I'd like to see that possible too, if only for "demo" projects or other non-VN projects.

I need to think about this. One problem is that the save directory needs to be created early in the process, so persistent can be around during the init phase. I also like the idea of it reporting an error early in the process, as I don't want people to start playing a game, and only an hour in realize that saving has been disabled.

I'll consider this, but I'm not in a big rush to implement it.

Hint: another way to distribute Ren'Py / a Ren'Py game

1.)Windows
2.)Mac
3.)Linux
4.)Handheld
5.)runnable from CD version

Okay, update: Ren'Py doesn't need a save directory at start, it needs it at end. I've made it so that my copy doesn't require this directory, and I'll worry about the consequences some other day.

Py'Tom - any chance you can tell me what you did ?
Will you put this functionality (optional) in a new release of Ren'Py ?

Basically, it now ignores errors saving the persistent file, and it deals with the case where the save directory doesn't exist properly.

How soon do you need it? It'll be in the next release. (6.2)

I really could do with it by the weekend, as I need to cut CDs by Tuesday of next week, but realistically - when is the next release out ?

I'll try to sneak it into 6.1.1, since I need to cut a final release of that anyway.
