Ren'Py 6.15 Released

#1 Post by PyTom »

I'm pleased to announce Ren'Py 6.15 "Foreign Policy", the result of about six months of Ren'Py development. The main focus of this release was on internationalization, the creation of a comprehensive translation system, and better support for displaying Japanese text. Other new features include:
  • An interactive console that allows you to type Ren'Py and python command, that can be accessed by typing ~.
  • Screens now take positional and named parameters,
  • Support for creating a replay gallery.
  • Voice improvements, including the ability to mute particular voices.
  • Support for skinning the launcher.
Ren'Py now includes a Japanese translation of the tutorial game, which can be accessed from the preferences menu. For a full list of features and bug fixes, please see the changelog.

Ren'Py 6.15 has increased the minimum requirements to run on the Macintosh platform. It now requires a 64-bit Intel Macintosh running OS X 10.6 or later.

It's released. Thanks to everyone who helped with testing.

There isn't a RAPT for 6.15 yet. I'm doing some fairly major changes to RAPT, so they might take a while. I'll release a 6.15.x with a corresponding RAPT version.

Right after I updated I tried to put in my own skin, and this popped up. I tried opening some other projects but the same happened. I updated straight from my launcher if that means anything.

It may be some sort of update problem. Try downloading Editra from the website and installing it yourself.

I downloaded the Editra folder and stuck it into the folder but it still didn't register. Then I tried to download the Ren'Py 6.15 installer and grabbed all the files from there, and Editra still didn't work. I tried just the zip and the same thing happened. For now I'm gonna stick with 6.14 because Notepad++ just doesn't feel the same >_>

What happens if you download editra and run editra.exe?

I'm getting the same problem as moya with out changing from the default theme (e.i. just updated and tired to open a script) I also tried the other solutions you proposed above but still no dice.

There is also a problem with Jedit. If you delete it from RenPy directory, game refuses to download and install it for the second time. I can also confirm the Editra error (Although I am still using Jedit myself).

Otherwise, Thank you for the release of 6.15 and fixing the bar I reported in "Questions" part of the forum. It now works flawlessly. Console is beyond useful (especially for slightly more complicated game designs). Also console seems to be doing something with screens because some pictures change when I call it in some places, but it might not even be a bug since everything work as intended the moment console is turned off again.

I've a weird behavior too: I have a VERY BIG (1mb!) .rpy file with normal renpy coding (menu and script, nothing weird) and when I click on launch, nothing happens. Checking in the process I see a pythonw.exe running, when I stop it and try nothing happens again.
I might try splitting that insanely huge file in two-three parts though :D

Avira AntiVirus detects a TR/Dropper.Gen virus inside the renpy.exe and prevents you from running it.
This is most likely just a false positive, but still you might want to do something about this, PyTom.

I was able to repeat the problem with editra. It turned out to be a packaging bug.

I've uploaded the first 6.15.1 prerelease to the prerelease channel. You can get it by going to preferences, choosing the prerelease channel, and then hitting update.

If people who were having the editra problem with 6.15.0 could try the prerelease and let me know what happens, I'd appreciate it.

Updated to 6.15.1 and Editra started after a bit of lag, saying that the version was a beta and there may be bugs. I closed and opened it a few times to see if it would happen again but it looks like the coast is clear and it works. It's also a minor thing, but launching projects will make the game open with what I guess is a Python icon.

Thank you for this update, I hope I'll be able to figure out how to use that scene replay function soon.

This is exactly what is happening for me too. Script opens after a couple seconds lag + different icon. All is working now though! :D

Does anyone have an idea on what can cause such an error (OS Win7 64bit):

http://puu.sh/2crTQ

Buttons are not showing in viewport...
It works fine on my own hardware but a friend cannot get rid of it even after upgrade to 6.15...

This is a screenshot of clean install (not an update from previous versions):

========================
Otherwise:

- Bug with Editra is gone
- Bug where you cannot 'redownload' an editor persists. (If that is a bug)
