Hi, I'm having an issue with scripting. I'm trying to get my background into the game, and though the script looks like this:
Code: Select all
image bg mount = "mount.jpeg"
define j = Character('Jae-Sun', color="#c8ffc8")
image jae happy = "jae_happy.png"
image jae grumpy = "jae_grumpy.png"
# The game starts here.
label start:
scene bg mount
show jae happy
with dissolve
and even though my background image ("mount.jpg") is in the correct folder, it still won't show up. It just comes up as a plain white background when I launch my game.
Can anyone help me?

You have "mount.jpeg". Is that it?

I tried that, but it didn't seem to work. I even tried changing the file format, and still, nothing.

Just curious, is the background the correct size to fit the screen?
I once was creating a test background very quickly, and accidentally saved before I resized it to the right resolution, and it only showed a small portion of the image, so I just figured I'd ask.

Yes, I've even re-sized the background, and still, it won't show up.

Is it possible that the word "mount" is a reserved word?
Try changing it.

I've tried changing it to "mountains", "mountainpic", "bg mountains", etc., I've even tried using a different file altogether. That one was clouds.jpg, and it was defined as "clouds", "cloud", "bg clouds" and even that one won't show up.

If you tried Uncle Mugen's script, all I can think of is the image is either not a jpeg or in the wrong directory? What happens when you try run the game, does it say it's not there? Is there a black screen? Is the just the transparent grid that shows?
Edit: Didn't see the plain white bit... Huh :/ I'm afraid without seeing the script and the directory I have no clue why it isn't working...

Certainly, the problem is not in the code. The code is OK.

My character picture comes up, and the background image I want is in the same folder.
Here is the whole script:
Code: Select all
image bg_mount = "mount.jpg"
define j = Character('Jae-Sun', color="#c8ffc8")
image jae happy = "jae_happy.png"
image jae grumpy = "jae_grumpy.png"
# The game starts here.
label start:
scene bg_mount
show jae happy
with dissolve
j "Hi there! Welcome to Elaine's test game!"
j "I'm only here for show. Haha."
j "Would you like to have a look around?"
menu:
"Sure, why not.":
jump choice1_yes
"No thanks.":
jump choice1_no
label choice1_yes:
$menu_flag = True
j "Alright! You're pretty cool."
jump choice1_done
label choice1_no:
$menu_flag = False
show jae grumpy
j "Well, fine. Who needs ya."
jump choice1_done
label choice1_done:
# ... the game continues here.
if menu_flag:
j "So you said you wanted a look around? Cool."
else:
j "Anyway."
label menu_flag_done:
show jae happy
j "Let's get this show on the road."
j "So this is a test game, as I said."
j "Basically, it's just for experimental purposes."

You may want to try this code variation where I lumped together all the images and the character under an init...
I'll be waiting warmly for results...
Code: Select all
init:
image bg_mount = "mount.jpg"
image jae happy = "jae_happy.png"
image jae grumpy = "jae_grumpy.png"
$ j = Character('Jae-Sun', color="#c8ffc8")
# The game starts here.
label start:
scene bg_mount
show jae happy
with dissolve
j "Hi there! Welcome to Elaine's test game!"
j "I'm only here for show. Haha."

show jae grumpy
j "Well, fine. Who needs ya."
