Shrinking the size of the actual game [SOLVED]

#1 Post by Cinto »

I've seen other people's games in ridiculously small sizes, but mine- it's very small, only about five different graphics total, is at over 300 MB. Is it possible to reduce this size somehow? I'm on a Mac currently with no access to a PC.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

That... definitely doesn't sound normal, yeah. If you make a build of your game without archiving the files, where is most of size coming from? Images, music, sounds...?

I don't have any music and only one very small sound file which is part of my splashscreen.

Do you have your original PSDs stored in the directory? A zip file you misplaced? That's a lot of data. Check every directory and sort by size.

The entire actual directory of the project is 13 MB.

Can you check the Properties of the entire folder on you Mac to make sure it's really only 13MB?
Have you made or placed anything inside the folder that might cost so much MB?
Do you have some file secretly hidden somewhere?
Have you downloaded anything recently?
Maybe you should scan the folder for viruses.

Just giving out Ideas.
Much Appreciated for those who took the Survey!

Yeah, I did. It says "13 MB for 31 items."

I cleaned out some stuff from the actual folder and tried building distributions again, but no luck, same result. Is it because I'm trying to build it for all platforms? Would that cause it? (Just thought of that.)

EDIT: Oh, yep, found it. Sorry for all the trouble, that was just me being an idiot. I didn't even see that I was trying to build for all systems.

yepp that is probably the cause. Was for me at least.....building for only 1 distribution reduced the filesize QUITE a lot. Try it...as you are a mac user try to check only "mac" and take a look at the new filesize. It should be quite a lot smaller that way. Let us know if it is still so big then.

EDIT:
Solved itself with your edit there :) had the same problem myself for a while. Can happen :)
