Recommended Free Sound and Music Resources?

#1 Post by rocket » Wed Jul 11, 2007 12:59 pm

Seems like there's a lot of cr*p out there on the web. Can anyone recommend useful ones?

Sorry if this topic has been beat to death but I can't seem to get the forum search to return results where multiple term matches are included (don't show me all threads with either "free" or "sounds", but all threads with "free" followed immediately by "sounds"). :-/

Be sure to check out the thread that the page points to as well, the wiki wasn't updated for some time.

Wow, thanks!

Its really confusing though that...

...doesn't seem to have any links to.

Also seems broken. What other handy pages are there in the Wiki that a n00b should know?

The freesound project looks promising. Try checking there for what you need. I didn't get a chance to look thoroughly, and I don't have anything to look for specifically anyway. I'd like to know what people think, though, just because I like these kind of open-source, free license, etc. projects.

Yup, freesound was a good find. I think I'm still going to have to mix my own ambient loops but at least I feel I have the building blocks.

For now I just need a sound or two to build my proof of concept and make sure I understand Ren'Py.

I'm using freesound for 90% of my sound effects, and recording my own for the other 10%~

For music I'm looking into creative commons stuff, magnatune has a great variety of music, but in the 10 minutes I spent searching I couldn't find anything suitable for background music (it all had attention-drawing vocals D: ); kahvi has ambient / electronic stuff, which is nicer as BGM, but doesn't suit a lot of moods :-/

Jamendo http://www.jamendo.com/en/ has got a pretty good variety of background style music. Try searching for ambient, movie, or game.

And yah, Free Sound had enough of what I needed that GarageBand will let me mix up the rest.

Um... so does any admin type person actually care about the wiki being empty from the Ren'Py pages? (;_;)
