After having my laptop kick the bucket two times in a row and having to start from scratch on my projects, I re-downloaded Ren'py, booted it up, and made a new game! Cool.
Except after two weeks, when I booted up the game and got absolutely nothing. The window appears, vanishes completely, and continues to happily run in the background while I can't access it. Alt+tab reveals that it didn't go mysteriously invisible; it's just...not accessible.
I'm running Windows 8 on a 64-bit computer, and the Ren'py folder is in My Documents. I think the only meaningful thing I've done so far is download a few updates, I think? Aaaand I haven't downloaded Windows 8.1 as of yet. Please help.

I'm using Version 6.17.5. There are no error messages.
It launches, then the window winks out. It shows up in the Task Manager process list, and the files react to said process as if it were running normally, but the actual program is nowhere to be found.

Is a traceback.txt or log.txt file created?

I don't know where those are supposed to be, but there's nothing like that in the Ren'py folder.
Uhmmmmmm...I had an outdated version of Python installed, and after uninstalling the Ren'py window to stick around, only to crash within the next 3 seconds. Relation unknown. No effect on Ren'py games, which do the "starting up and then vanishing into the background process ether" thing. Ren'py games that are all packed up (e.g. Frozen Essence) run just fine.
Aaaand having the newest version of Python installed, just to check, doesn't change this. Hrgghghmm.
