Font baseline problem

#1 Post by monele »

Tested a lot of fonts yesterday to get a nice "comics" look. And it's not easy to find a nice looking *free to use* comics font ^^;... But I did find one that seems quite readable for long stretches of time. Problem : it's strangely displayed by Ren'Py :

The placement and baseline changes from font to font (especially the I and H letters here).

Here's how it's generated with Photoshop :

I really hope we can do something about this because the font looks really good and is one of the rare to be rendered improperly by Ren'Py :(...

EDIT NOTE : I'm trying to turn it into a SFont to solve the problem. Will update this post if it works well.

EDIT 2 : It works fine as a SFont ^^. I guess it's up to you wether to look into the problem or not now.

I wonder if it has anything to do with the TrueType patent? I don't know whether renpy ships with the patented hinter compiled in or not.

Ren'Py uses the unpatented hinter, so that could certainly contribute to the problem.
