What does auto forward do? [Solved]

#1 Post by trooper6 » Mon Feb 02, 2015 5:48 pm

So I've messed with this slider in preferences in a couple of different games, toggled it on in the quick menu...and it doesn't seem to do anything.

What exactly does this option do? Does it do anything? In which contexts does it do something?

I think it just "plays the game for you" until a choice is reached. Same as hard skip, only a lot slower.

The usual auto-forward-time slider controls how long a delay there is before progressing to the next line of text IF you have auto-play switched on.

If you don't have auto-play switched on, it won't do anything.

If you do switch auto-play on but have the delay time set really high, it won't appear to do anything.

It can also be somewhat confusing because LESS delay equals FASTER autoplay, so the direction of the bar is sometimes unintuitive compared to other bars. I've sometimes been known to reverse it and make it 'autoplay speed' instead.

In Date Warp we also added a little extra slider thingie next to the dialog box that animates to show how much time is remaining before the game auto-advances, so you can more visibly see the effect of changing that setting.

Yes. Auto is an option to essentially let the game play itself (so you don't have to click) until a decision must be made. The slider probably changes the speed of Auto Mode, to get it close your natural reading speed.

EDIT: Papillon's explanation was much better than mine. : P

Thank you all for this info. One of the thing that was making it unclear if the button did anything is that a) I had the slider all the way to the right...therefore not doing much, and b) my first text block is long, so it took a long time to forward even when the slider was closer to the left. Now I see what this does...and can see there is no need to get rid of it for my game. Woot!

Thanks!
