Newbie questions about Ren'py features

Hi! This is the first time I post here :). I'm thinking about using Ren'py for my next project, but I have a couple of questions:

1. Can I play Theora videos WITH SUBTITLES?

2. Has Ren'py suppor for localization & internationalization out of the box?

Thank you very much in advance, and sorry if my questions are too basic!

1. Soft-subtitles are not supported. You can use a number of tools to "bake in" hard subtitles, although that's less than ideal.

2. Yes, see: http://www.renpy.org/doc/html/translation.html

By the way: what about print subtitles above the video using Ren'py texts visualizacion capabilities? Too overkill, maybe?

Hm...

You could do it by hand, but drawing something on top the video like that requires Ren'Py to use a slower path for video playback. So I don't recommend it unless it's the only way. (And it won't work at all on Android and iOS, since the slow path is too slow.)
