Using Ren'Py to create games other than Visual Novels?

#1 Post by namastaii »

How realistic would it be to use the Ren'Py engine for android platform based games, like a virtual pet sort of game or anything that complicated or maybe a little less complicated? Kid games maybe. The only reason I ask is because Ren'Py has become a comfort zone for me. lol

Renpy also allows you to use python...and people have used renpy to make stat raisers...all sorts of thing. I imagine it would be doable.
A Close Shave:
*Last Thing Done (Aug 17): Finished coding emotions and camera for 4/10 main labels.
*Currently Doing: Coding of emotions and camera for the labels--On 5/10
*First Next thing to do: Code in all CG and special animation stuff
*Next Next thing to do: Set up film animation
*Other Thing to Do: Do SFX and Score (maybe think about eye blinks?)

There are games that Ren'Py is good at, and games that it's not. If you can conceive your game as a series of menus, Ren'Py will likely work well. (Even if those menus are a series of screens.)

At this point, I'd design for iOS and Android, if you're targeting mobile.

I want to develop kid/toddler games. There's either a way to do something creative with what Ren'Py can do or I'll have to learn another engine XD haha

Renpy is amazing for creating just about anything from Open World RPGs, Dungeon crawlers to interactive strategy games. Have a look around in the cookbook forum to find great examples:
