Let's say you're someone who wears out computers and has to upgrade/reinstall frequently.
Let's say you just spent 2 days doing it, and in doing so lost everything as usual.
You open ren'py and you want to load your old project and continue.
You see "create new project"
You see a header entitled "open directory" that has nothing to do with what you need.
You see absolutely NO WAY to just OPEN an old file and bring it into the work list.
No. Really. This makes no sense.

If you're looking to run the game, click Launch Project. If you're looking to open a single file to edit, using the links under Open Directory should open an explorer window listing all of the files in it.
This is assuming that the project was backed up/wasn't removed after you upgraded however. Did you reinstall your operating system? If your computer had multiple hard drives, did you save your Ren'Py project on the one that doesn't have the OS installed? For example, on a Windows machine with multiple drives, the OS is typically on the C drive and any storage data like pictures and documents are on the D drive.

What I'm looking to do is have the project back in my project list like it was before. The old lady in me keeps wanting to look for an "import project" option or even "open project" or something that would allow the system to reattach to the folder in question and put things back the way they were before I had to wipe my hard drive 3 times.
The game was of course in a separate folder tucked away, so it's not been lost. It's just.. there's no way to import without doing a song and dance with copy and paste. Which has of course se tmy dropbox into fits of moving things about and overwriting things. Not. Happy.

On the Ren'Py window, go to Preferences on the bottom right. The Project Directory is where you can place your project folder in to have it show in the Projects list. Make sure the game folder is a subdirectory in that folder.
Code: Select all
renpy_project_directory
my_project
game
...
As far as I know, copy-paste is the only way.

Ugh. I did that. That's where the mess comes in. It's a big mess now. ArrrrrrrrrrRrrrrrRrrRRRRrrRRRRrRRRRgh. And even when I copy pasted it didn't appear in the project list. Methinks I should figure out how to do a feature request for this sytem. Cuz. I'm not even sure how much of the game is still intact at this point. ArrrrrRrgh.

Before you do a feature request, I think it would be important to diagnose what the problem is.
Your problem is, if I understand it:
Your have your launcher open.
You click on Preferences in the lower right corner
Under project directory in the top left there is a path specified.
Your project's folder is inside the folder specified (Your project is also a file with a game folder and in that game folder are the rpy files)
You go back
Your list of projects on the left does not include your game
You hit refresh and it still isn't there?
Is that correct?
You create a new Project (just for testing) and the new project shows up in the same folder as the project you can't locate on the projects list? Is that correct?

Yep that's how it happened. What I ended up doing was starting a new project and copy-pasting over.
