Scene transition without losing dialogue box

#1 Post by InvertMouse » Fri Sep 18, 2015 10:41 pm

Hello there :). At the moment, I am crossfading between images like this:

scene image_a

"Hello! Here is the first image."

scene image_b with dissolve

"And here is the second image."

When I crossfade to image b, the dialogue box disappears for a second before coming back in. Is that a way to prevent this from happening? I am working on a game at the moment that has quite a few cg transitions, so the constant popping in and out of that box can become quite a distraction.

Thank you everyone :D!

Use ATL instead of transitions. Transitions force the game to wait until they're finished; ATL does not. You use ATL with "at" rather than "with," and you'll probably have to define a few to fit your needs, but there are good tutorials around for that.

Code: Select all

init:
    transform atldissolve:
        alpha 0
        linear 0.5 alpha 1.0

label start:
    "blah"
    scene black at atldissolve
    "blah blah"

Would putting "window show" in your script.rpy file solve the problem?

Like so:

Code: Select all

label start:
    window show
A Close Shave:
*Last Thing Done (Aug 17): Finished coding emotions and camera for 4/10 main labels.
*Currently Doing: Coding of emotions and camera for the labels--On 5/10
*First Next thing to do: Code in all CG and special animation stuff
*Next Next thing to do: Set up film animation
*Other Thing to Do: Do SFX and Score (maybe think about eye blinks?)

Reason I recommended atl rather than window show, btw, is that window show will show the window but will still wait for the transition to finish with a blank window (i.e., text disappears). It tends to be slightly more jarring than atl, which simply goes on with the game. But good point bringing the option up.
