Make the quick menu (preferences) appear during menu choice?
You know when you make the user choose something in a menu and then the story proceeds depending on the choice.
Every time this screen comes up the quick preference menu in the bottom right containing the preferences (save/load) disappears. How can I make it not disappear? Is it even possible?
Also, the Ren'Py engine might consider not have the menu disappear during choices per default cause it is an annoying thing about playing visual novels when you can't save at the moment you really would want to.

If your choices are scripted this waythen your dialogue box will disappear, by default. If your quick menu is being shown by your dialogue box, it will disappear too.
But if you change the script this way:then the dialogue box and the quickmenu will stay on screen.
Code: Select all
"Which of the girls made you the most interesting invitation?"
menu:
"Alana":
jump shopping_with_alana
"Laura":
jump study_with_lauraBut if you change the script this way:
Code: Select all
menu:
"Which of the girls made you the most interesting invitation?"
"Alana":
jump shopping_with_alana
"Laura":
jump study_with_lauraNo, sorry! You must be mistaking me for someone else.

Is there any way around this and have it on by default?
Right now I am forced to write sentences that appear at the same time as the menu. The text box does not appear if I input an empty sentence and I don't like being forced to change my narration to suit the syntax.

1. Renpy is basically free from save here! issues due to rollback. This is not an issue unless you actively disable the functionality.
3. You can also use extend. http://lemmasoft.renai.us/forums/viewto ... 58#p391073
2. You can put in a space rather than an actually empty string.VisualLearning wrote:The text box does not appear if I input an empty sentence.
Code: Select all
menu:
" "
"Choice":
pass
"Choice":
pass

Both extend and the string with space are excellent solutions.
I don't know why I tried with an empty string only.
