I'm about to make a few physical copies of my game for the first time, printing them on a CD. I was wondering if there are any preferred methods for this?
Do people just have the Zips there for people to copy over, or do you make any kind of installers? I'd like for it to be useable for linux and mac users as well, after all.
Renpy game on disc - preferred method?

Re: Renpy game on disc - preferred method?
Never done this, but I'd:
-Export all (ie. export the single zip containing Windows, Mac and Linux versions)
-Extract the zip
-Burn the contents (not the single folder, but its contents instead; game.exe, game.sh, etc.)
So if you insert the CD, you'll be able to double click on the exe/sh/app file and run your game straight from the disc, or extract everything from the CD onto your computer and run it from there.

That's not a bad idea!
What about everyone else? Do you think this would work well from a casual player's perspective too, or are there better ways of doing it?

I'd suggest using a tool like NSIS to build an installer. I don't think people want their CD drive to spin up each time Ren'Py needs to read an asset.

If I want it to be accesible for more than just windows users, would it be ok to use something like NSIS and maybe also include the .zip file for those who would just copy it over then?

Yes, that probably makes sense.
Are there many people who prefer to get games on disc nowadays?

Re: Renpy game on disc - preferred method?
Heh, probably not. I'm just making a few for an artist alley table I'll be running soon, and will be adding steam keys along with them as well anyway. Maybe they can use the disc as a coaster?
Thanks for the answers though

You could always write the steam code on the back of the CD - just like one of the big game companies.
