Keeping PS Layer Mode Data? (Overlay/Multiply) - Photoshop)
*EDITED*
Hey team,
For one of my upcoming VNs, we're using layered, animated backgrounds. The way they work is that filters are layered on top of a group background layers to create the desired look. Due to the background elements/layers being randomised within Ren'Py (using the 'choice' command) and containing transparency, I can't flatten/rasterize the layers before exporting.
So my question is, is there a way to export the layers from within Photoshop in a way that keeps the layer mode data (as they are set to overlay/multiply), so that the end result within Ren'Py looks the same as the complete Photoshop file?
Thanks!

Re: Keeping Translucency Values? (Layered Artwork - Photosho
If you saving as PNG-8bit then i think photoshop not saving alpha range, only transparent/opaque. Try "Export for web..."->"PNG-24"
P.S.: Result files will be large tho, if you really concerned about size, developing for mobiles or something, you can do something like opaque jpeg for image and grayscale jpeg for alpha channel, then combine during load.

I already tried that, no luckdrKlauz wrote:If you saving as PNG-8bit then i think photoshop not saving alpha range, only transparent/opaque. Try "Export for web..."->"PNG-24"
*EDIT* Sorry, just checked, the layers have 100% opacity, but I guess the brushes the artist I'm working with has used are not set to 100% opacity.

Hm... Not sure really, maybe you need rasterize layer before exporting, some filters not applied or w/e, hard to tell without sample psd.

Sorry, I've just spoken to my artist, it turns out I have my question slightly wrong, I'm going to go back and edit the first post according, but, I need to export the layers in a way that keeps the layer mode data as they are set to overlay/multiply.drKlauz wrote:Hm... If you want PNG as result, you have to rasterize layer i believe. PNG contain only pixels (R8G8B8+Alpha8). Maybe you can make RenPy apply desired mode to image when displaying, but you can't save it in PNG itself.
I may be available for hire, check my thread: viewtopic.php?f=66&t=51350

No, there is no such way. You will have to layer them manually. So my question is, is there a way to export the layers from within Photoshop in a way that keeps the layer mode data (as they are set to overlay/multiply), so that the end result within Ren'Py looks the same as the complete Photoshop file?
