Problem with blurry sprites/imagemaps and the colours

#1 Post by Oktolio » Fri Jun 10, 2016 6:26 am

Hello. I started making my first game not too long ago, as well as learning the Renpy language. While defining images (sprites etc.), I've noticed something really strange. When the game is in window-mode, the sprites and menus are clear, the colours are more vivid. However, when I try to enter fullscreen mode, the images get awfully blurry (menus as well, every single one), and the colours get more desaturated.
For sprites I tried to both resize them beforehand and then in renpy itself, nothing helped. I could put a disclaimer to not play the game in full mode but that's not really the point.

Any help is greatly appreciated!!

Well, try these two methods and see if they work out.

The first method is to change the game screen size in the 'options' script to a larger setting like 1280x720. With that, you have to resize your sprites to make them look good in the 1280x720 format. It could be this because if you're using the 800x600 format currently then you'll end up stretching the images when you go into full screen mode.

The second method is to try pressing 'Shift+g' after your game have started up to bring up the render options. Try testing out each option under the 'graphics acceleration' heading. Maybe this will solve your problem.

Anyways, good luck and hope this helps you. :)

My screen already is 1280x720 :') But yeah I've tried the second method, and although some (?? mysteriously) of the sprites are still blurry, the colours look a lot better! Thank you :)

Okay so turns out the im.Scale doesn't always work properly on sprites? I used that to scale sprites in renpy and two of them were blurry while the other two weren't. So I just decided to scale my pictures beforehand they look just fine! That's really weird, but I'm glad it worked out.

Nice! Glad it worked out for you! X) Having the original art to be in the game's native resolution is usually the best way to go so it doesn't scale up or down when you go from full screen to windowed or vice versa. Also, having the original art prepared larger than the native resolution is usually a good idea because then when you scale it down later you won't see the blurring effect. :)

Good luck with your project there! :D
