Android development: rinse/repeat

PyTom,
Out of curiosity, if it possible to add one more folder for *.rpyc/*.rpyb files lookup for mobile platforms, Android specifically?
Something like sdcard/Android/data/test.test/files/assets
I.e. a newer file is loaded either from obb of above folder.
And *.rpyc/*.rpyb files can be written there too.

I do realize there is very limited interest in Ren'Py for Android.
I.e. it’s not a request, I just to throw an
I was wondering, how difficult it’ll be to implement, do you think?

I think you'll get faster response for something like this over at the Renpy Development Forum

It's a good idea, but it might be a security risk. I'd have to think about it, and I'm in no rush to work on Android any time soon. I'd say patches welcome, but even there, we'd have to talk about the security risk first. Is this for development, rather than production, purposes?

Absolutely.
Rebuilding apk+obb for testing on every tiny update takes all the fun out from development.
I can replace files in obb, but it’ll be a lot faster and more convenient to have a writable folder for *.rpy/*.rpyc/*.rpyb files.
Technically, if we have the latter, we can do a (limited) development right on android tablet.

obb (on sdcard) can be updated/replaced easily, so having some files outside of obb won’t increase security risk, IMO.

Yep, no rush at all, just want to throw an idea!

Why don't you use the Android emulation (the one in Ren'Py launcher)? That's what I do when I want to test mobile builds, without needing to actually build the game :)

It's not the same...
Besides, I travel with Android tablet a lot, so I'll be able to fiddle with my project even on the go. :)
