It won't open!

I've downloaded the newest ver of renpy. 6.6.7, but I can't open the script editor! NUUUUU!!! What happened?

Strictly speaking, that's true; but it is still a pre-release (it's only intended for testing, and production should still be done, in principle, upon a stable version). The newest stable Ren'py is 6.7.1 Also, since there doesn't exist any "Ren'py 6.6.7" (after 6.6.3 "Bender" on July 25, the next release was 6.7.0 "Splines or Skins" on September 10th), I guess she meant 6.7, which may be either 6.7.0 or 6.7.1

@azureXtwilight: It would be good to know which version are you actually using for better troubleshooting. Check the lower left corner on the launcher to find it out (where the "Eileen and the snake" logo is). Also, are you using jEdit, Scite, or something else? There were some issues with 6.7.1 and Scite (the launcher says the editor was launched, but nothing happens). Someone mentioned that "Scite for Ren'py" patch was working well on 6.8, in the release thread; so, if this is your case, you should give 6.8 a try (although it's a pre-release, it seems quite stable by now).

If the above doesn't solve your problem, I'd suggest you to reply mentioning which OS, editor, and version of Ren'py are you using. Without at least these details, any answer will be a blind guess.

I have noticed some minor issues with jEdit recently, which could be related to your problem but it's not likely.

6.7.1 is the one. I still can't open the editor every time I click "edit script".

Odds are that you just don't have Java installed. Go get it at http://www.java.com and try Ren'Py again.

Otherwise, you might have installed the SciTE package for Ren'Py 6.7.1, which has a tendancy to not work right. Either restore the 6.7.1 back to how it came as (it changed the editor.rpy file) or change your version. 6.7.0 and 6.8.0 both work just fine.
