Evidence/Files system?

The idea is you would have an image button always in the bottom-right of the screen (or perhaps accessible by the HUD) that, when opened will pause and dim the game and open a menu showing files. You could choose between people files and other files (i.e. like evidence in Phoenix Wright). You can select an item, view it.

Anyone know of a good recipe or cookbook entry for this?

Great idea! I think you could use Leon's Inventory Screen for it, it's easy to customise. See messages from Momotaros there, they was looking for the same thing as you do (I guess).
