Game slows down when sound plays?

Game slows down when sound plays?

Hi. I'm working on a new VN and I really want to give the user some kind of audio feedback when the characters are speaking (IE bleeps). I know it's not really common practice to do so, but I think it can be used to great effect depending on the game.

Anyways, I have a sound layer that plays a short sound effect on loop every time a character's callback is set off. However, every time the sound is loaded, the game pauses for a moment, which messes up the animations. Even when it's not a loop, the pause is noticeable enough to ruin some of the UI animations I have set up.

Is there any way to decrease the slowdown that occurs when Renpy is loading a sound effect?

Are you on the latest Ren'Py? There was an issue with this a while back, but it should be fixed now.

It still runs slowly. I tried the nightly build too and the problem is the same. I feel like it has to do with the fact that it's trying to load the file over and over again.
