Updating a really old game to the newest version of Ren'py?

#1 Post by PhZXgames » Thu Jun 29, 2017 9:16 pm

Yeah so I'm part of a group that wants to turn their game, made in Ren'py version 6.12.2 to the newest version of Ren'py which to my knowledge is 6.99.12.

I've never ventured back that far, and their entire GUI is still the old stuff, which is fine, but how would I possibly transfer all the flubberton of files to the few that the Ren'Py launcher allows quick access too?

Thanks!

It should just work to drag it into your projects directory. Ren'Py works reasonably well with older code, or at least it's meant to. Check the list of incompatible changes, and don't upgrade to newer stuff without an articulable reason.

Assuming you want the new GUI as well, you can copy the script.rpy file to a new project, then you just need to adjust the backgrounds and custom screens in the new GUI to match the old ones.
This depends on how complex the game is and exactly what you want to achieve.

I'd go with PyTom's advice if possible for you.
