Question involving animation

first off, is the script still okay to follow for the newest updated renpy?? It says that its very old so I wanted to be sure there wasnt a better way

Also, im unsure by looking at this but does this animation stop when the text is finished? I dont want them to continue talking after the text as already stopped BUT i do want them to continue to blink. Maybe this would require two sepreate scripts?

lol this would be so much easier if renpy supported .gif files. I can do hand drawn animation but the coding is a bit confusing? sorry im very new to renpy.
