Ren'Py not working with OBS? (solved, for now)

I just tried to capture my game with OBS and it doesn't work properly:

I add either a captured window or a game to the OBS scene. When I select the game as source, I see its content in the mini preview of the selection window, but the main preview remains black. I recorded it to be sure and the video file is also only black. Other windows still work. I also tried all three modes "how to find the window by name" in the selection with and without multi-adapter compatibility.

Both OBS and Ren'Py are up to date, I just checked. It's also not only my game run out of Ren'Py, but also another game that I downloaded.

No idea, but I have streamed more than one Ren'Py game using Gameshow. Maybe try downloading that to test?

Gameshow crashes on startup with an exception

OBS has the same issue with the Ren'Py launcher it seems...

I just recently streamed Romance Detective with Gameshow on my Mac and didn't have any issue. So maybe there is something else going on?

I tried around a little more and got OBS to ... hm, hard to desrcibe. This is the source selection screen:



See how the OBS window is recorded OVER the Ren'Py game? And it's not live either. It's like there's a screenshot taken that is just used instead of a live image.

I'd suggest reporting this to the OBS developers. Ren'Py is using relatively standard ways of displaying graphics, and it's the responsibility of a screencasting program to be able to deal with those methods.

I have no idea what I did, but as soon as I entered the OBS support chat, it worked. Really, I literally changed nothing I hadn't changed about 20 tries earlier. Well, it's okay now, we'll see if it stays that way.
