Using Notepad++ with Renpy causes parsing errors because "Tabs".

#1 Post by Prismatic »

The recommended editor "Editra" does not work well for me, if I tab it down for a while and try to tab up again I just hear a "Ding" sound like there is some message box open and program never tabs up.

I wanted to use Notepad++ instead. I followed this outdated guide: viewtopic.php?f=51&t=24091
I downloaded the files and added them in my notepad++ folder.

I started to edit my project I worked on, just adding a few new lines of a character talking.
When I try to launch the game, I get the following error.

Parsing the script failed.
File "game/script.rpu", line 38: Tab characters are not allowed in Ren'Py scripts.

Every time I make a new line in Notepad++ it automatically writes a tab.

The guide I tried to follow is outdated and I cannot find the setting as the graphical interface have changed.
"2) Go to Settings -> Preferences -> Tab Settings, find "Tab Size" and make sure it is set to "4" then check the "Replace by space" Checkbox, and Notepad++ will use spaces instead of tab for indentation."

This solution above, I cannot find in Notepad++.

Does anyone else use notepad++ with Ren'Py?
How to make it work so Notepad++ don't write tabs and instead makes a few spaces or similar that works for Ren'Py?
