quick menu image maps, hotspot overlaps

#1 Post by ViviChibi » Fri Jan 12, 2018 6:32 pm

After doing a lot of research on what to do regarding my quick menu image map, I still can't figure out what would be the best way to do this. I have a quick menu with circular buttons that I plan to turn into an imagemap, with the buttons as hotspots (this is the idle state):

This is what I want the each button to look like when hovered:

The issue is that because Ren'py doesn't allow for circular hotspots, I am stuck using small squares as hotspots over each quick menu button. This is resulting in overlap so that when the user clicks on one of the buttons, part of the adjacent button is getting highlighted (in the hover state) as well.

Is there a better way to do this? I also have a file with one button highlighted in each, like so, if that helps:

I know I could likely do this with image buttons, but I have a feeling that the placement along the compass quick menu art would be tricky, and I would rather not make my artist redo the menu as individual buttons. Any opinions on the best way to do this would be appreciated. :D

My opinion is to never ever bother with imagemaps at all. One trick which can help you with transition to imagebutton is to make buttons take whole screen with small active area and alpha set to True.
