I'm having a little trouble with voices. I was doing a quick test to make sure I'd be able to implement the auto voice properly, but renpy severely decreases the volume of the voice files. When I listen to a file in the folder it sounds perfectly reasonable, but in game it's like whispering.
I tried:
Code: Select all
$ renpy.music.set_volume(1, "voice")
Which made the sound disappear. I had originally done individual volume bars for each character, but the max volume was still way quieter than it should have been.
When I play the same file as a sound effect instead of on the voice channel, it's much louder.
Any ideas as to what could be the issue?

Have you tried
Code: Select all
define config.default_voice_volume = 1.0
to set voice volume to max?
You need to delete persistent before it takes effect.

Thank you, that worked. However, trying to adjust the volume after that makes it go super quiet again, even after turning it up all the way. Maybe I could just have a toggle mute button instead of volume bars but I'd prefer not to...

Can you post the code that you're using for the volume bar?

While you are at that, do you mind posting the code for your " config.auto_voice = "voice/{id}.ogg" " too?

Yes sorry, wow, I didn't even see people had replied to this. I decided to just use a mute button since the issue persisted:
textbutton "Mute Ash" action ToggleVoiceMute("Ash") xalign 0.8 yalign 0.26
But I was using this before:
# frame xpos 727 yalign 0.26:
# background None
# has vbox
# bar value SetCharacterVolume("Ash") left_bar "bar_full" right_bar "bar_empty" thumb None

Is boosting the volume of the audio in something like Audacity out of the question? Maybe it's just too quiet?

The audio was at a reasonable volume when I was putting the files in the right folder, so I don't think so. And the issue only comes up when adjusting the volume. At max volume, it's the same sound, but when attempting to adjust the volume even slightly, it drops down until it's almost unable to be heard. That's why I changed it to just a mute/unmute button, but I think it would be useful to have volume bars.

I just had the same problem on a project I was working on, and since this post still isn't solved I thought I could share my solution.
Try setting the xmaximum on your bar to the size of the actual asset. It worked like a charm
