help with load and save background

Please help for much I try I cant customize the background, I dont want to make an image map, just change the background of the menupreferences....
I try:
add background.png

but it didnt change the background, if I use

screen bla:
background bacground.png

it didnt work, please help it was like the only thing I have left to end my visual novel...
