Script.rpy

#1 Post by tanaustin »

Hello,

I have just downloaded the latest version and I am a beginner in creating games. I've gone through the tutorials on Ren'py and on YouTube.

I've created a new project. I chose jedit for my editor. When I go into script.rpy to edit, it says, "To view this web content, you need to install the Java Runtime Environment."

I clicked the link in the window, and I downloaded the latest version of Java. I went back to edit and I received the same message.

Does anyone on this forum know what I have done wrong? I checked to see if anyone else on here has had this issue, 1 person in 2015 (269 views, 0 replies).

Thanks, in advance, for the help.

Hi,
Yes, I believe I did. Every time I typed in Google to download Java Runtime Environment it took me to the same page I had already downloaded the latest version of Java. I went into my security panel through Apple preferences and allowed Java plug-ins. Is there anything I'm missing?

Hm, I'm not a Mac user, sorry. I'm a jEdit user in Windows for years, without any problems so far. That said, I'm surprised nobody here suggested you try Atom, or another recommended editor. I believe you should try that if no other mac user here could help you.

So, a few questions. Which version of the Java Runtime Environment did you download, and from what site?

To see if it's installed properly, you could try the following:
1. Run the "Terminal" app - it's located in Application > Utilities
2. Type "java -version" (without the quotes) and see what it says.

I'm a Mac user and I'm using Atom...I'd recommend that.
A Close Shave:
*Last Thing Done (Aug 17): Finished coding emotions and camera for 4/10 main labels.
*Currently Doing: Coding of emotions and camera for the labels--On 5/10
*First Next thing to do: Code in all CG and special animation stuff
*Next Next thing to do: Set up film animation
*Other Thing to Do: Do SFX and Score (maybe think about eye blinks?)

I like Atom as well, but (if you’ll pardon the analogy) editors are like religion: they all do more or less the same things, just following different procedures, people like the one they know, and it’s rare that you can convert someone from one to another on logic alone. LOL.

Tanaustin - if you’re just starting Ren’py, then I WOULD suggest you consider Atom, since it has fewer external dependencies (java, etc.). But if you’re more comfortable with jEdit, we’ll try to help you get it running...
