Character Dialogue Box Position

#1 Post by Skiegh » Tue Jul 02, 2019 4:49 pm

Ahoy! I am looking to make eight custom characters for a scene where people are sitting around a table and such, and I wanted the dialogue boxes to be by their portrait. So I'm merely asking the best way to do that, I suppose.

Basically, something like this...

Image

Each person gets their own dialogue box. The portraits of the characters are 150x150 pixels, so dialogue boxes need to have a 150 margin I would assume. Height 150, Length 400. Also think I would like that to be the maximum and minimum size, so the box is always the same size.

I've been running into issues though, so here I am! Thanks in advance for any help.

(I don't know if it's possible to make dialogue creep in from right to left instead for the people on the right, but that would be neat if possible.)

I haven't done it myself, but from your description, it sounds like you need to modify the "screen say()" function in screens.rpy

Thanks for the responses. The link was useful, I did learn a bit reading through it. But in the end, I decided it best to just pass the dialogue through a screen instead. Considering it's not a long scene, seems like an easier alternative.
