Removing Metadata from Ren'Py Builds

#1 Post by verysunshine »

I've just learned that it's possible for files created on a computer to have links to that computer, such as the PC username of the person who created that file. Does this occur in Ren'Py builds? Is there a way to remove the metadata from the build files?

Build the basics first, then add all the fun bits.

Not sure but I know you can right click on files in windows and go to properties and "remove personal information" there might be bulk file editors for metadata somewhere online but not even sure if this is a thing anyway. you could build a demo game and send it to someone and test it that way.

The only metadata I've seen go into builds is metadata left in image files and log files.
You shouldn't be including log files in your builds anyway and when generating images, its a good idea to strip all metadata anyway as a space saving measure, except maybe copyright metadata.

Thanks, Imperf3kt! I'll try checking for metadata with an example product.

I'm not going to claim that there's any way to do this. Ren'Py and Python include filename information to help you debug your game. I'd suggest making sure you don't build your game in a path with your name/username/etc in it. If you want to be sure, I'd suggest setting up a virtual machine and building your game there.
