Using an image from a movie

I'm currently working in a project where I use tons of movies (54 as of now) and from these movies I need to use around 1200 screenshots. I could use VLC to get them, but this would add much more weigh to my already big project. So my question is : Is there a way to only use a frame/image from a cutscene ?
Something that would be like :
Code: Select all
$ renpy.movie_cutscene("<from 30 to 30.1>images/videos/Character/Video_A.webm")
This way I could define a list for each timecode needed and apply them automatically to the movie file.

https://www.renpy.org/doc/html/movie.html This is everything you can do with movies. So I'm guessing not. Depending on what you want screenshots for, you can either get the frames from VLC like you said or a gif maker website or if you're trying to pause the movie or do something to make the movie appear a certain way, I suggest editing the videos to do what you want. Why do you need so many movies and screenshots? Especially the screenshots
With Ren'Py, movies can get a bit performance heavy so just watch out for your game possibly slowing down and having performance issues

I dont think it is related to ATL's, because you said you were trying to use an image to make a movie for it, that'll be a perfect way to do, it'll be take to much time to do that since ATL is the only way you can choose.
As namastaii said, it'll be a heavy performance may cause your novel to slow down.

I'm building a NSFW dating simulator based on p*rn models, so I use their footage as the "reward" part. I've currently 14 girls implemented, each with between 2-7 scenes, this is why I have so much videos, each scene having around 30 key moments, this results in almost 1,5k pics. Why do I still chose to use videos instead of only pictures/screenshots ? Because I want the user to be able to chose between pictures/"animations" for his own convenience as it's one of the most thing I see as a feedback on games like this.

I know I don't really need ATL here, but no, I'm not using an image to make a movie out of it, it's the opposite. I want to use some frames from the movie as images. Let's say the movie has 24 image per second, and I want one at 30 seconds, I would like something that would allow me to select the (24*30=720) 720 frame of my .webm file.

My game data currently weighs 5GB, which is not uncommon in NSFW games. It currently runs smoothly, only the rollback is slow.

Okay, I understand better now. Hmm I don't have any experience in this type of thing. Have you seen a renpy game of this nature before? I am wondering if you can ask how they approached it

For me, i think it is not possible, since movie its just a movie and no one else.
I dont think RenPy can do a thing like that..

We're actually a few people to design games using real p*rn, 2/3 of them are made with HTML by the way. And looking at their code, it looks like they either used splitted cutscene with the "<from X to X>" method, or they directly used pictures they screenshotted from those movies.
I was thinking about your question towards my project, and yeah, it made me guess that almost nobody would use such full videos to create a game in Ren'Py, this is why it has never been answered before. I guess I'll have to stick to VLC to extract pictures then :/
Also, I tried to do an infinite loop of the same second, which resulted in the engine totally crashing. So never use that kind of code :
Code: Select all
$ renpy.movie_cutscene("<from 30 to 30>images/movies/Movie_A.webm",loops=-1)
Yet, I'm sure it works, but the loop is so fast the computer can't handle it properly

yeah avoid the looping haha sorry I couldn't come up with a great answer
