I had to look up summertime saga...
Are they seriously making almost $60,000 a month
That's about twice what I make in a year.

Not quite.
While looping a game to never end is easy, making your game work endlessly is much harder.

You need to ensure every interaction takes place at the right time, make sure scenes that mention past events only appear after said past event has actually transpired, keep track of the players completed and unseen events, etc.
Warning: May contain trace amounts of gratuitous plot.

Offtopic: If you are a renpy veteran and dont mind working on porn stuff, you have a great market to earn easy money.

Well, thats a team of people, so its not the money a single person gets, there's also tax on it and kickstarter's cut (30% IIRC).
But still, thats a lot of moolah for what is essentially a hobby.
