Game fails to detect the start label

#1 Post by Nikso » Sun Feb 23, 2020 4:35 pm

Code: Select all

I'm sorry, but an uncaught exception occurred.

While running game code:
File "renpy/common/00start.rpy", line 282, in script
    python:
ScriptError: could not find label 'start'.
But there is the start label, and it gets picked up, but after building distributions it doesn't.

Your error likely has nothing to do with a missing start label, it's just being picked up as the error, but is unrelated.

What happens when you delete persistent data and force a recompile before trying to launch your game?

In what script file you have this 'start' label? Are you sure this file is in your distribution?
If game works fine from launcher, try to rebuild distribution.

Could it be the rpa files what is messing with the build?

Depends if you are telling the rpa archives to not include the file with label start: in it...
What archiving settings are you using?
Mad Scientist Todo List:
  • Finish Improved Event Handler
  • Implement DragonBones animation as a Creator Defined Container
  • Develop Cartoon Speech Bubble dialogue
  • Finish Bitmask collision and rebound vector system
  • Develop time based building mechanic
  • Others
  • *Find a superb artist and actually write a game*

Check the archive options in options.rpy to see what files are archived and what are not. This might be that your script file with start label not included in distribution somehow... Or I don't know what else...
(edit: I'm sloooow...)
