Which license for commercial game on Android?

#1 Post by jwideman »

I'm having trouble figuring out the cost for the Oracle license in order to release my game commercially on Android. Can anyone with experience in this tell me which license they had to get and how much it cost them?

For the JDK commercial use you must subscribe Oracle Java SE, and price may vary, starting 2.50 dollars monthly fee for single device use.
Here:
https://www.oracle.com/java/java-se-subscription.html
Here the price table:
https://www.oracle.com/us/corporate/pri ... 028356.pdf

In the end, it does cost 2.50 dollars monthly from 1 to 999 users EACH. So, as long as your team is not Konami and you don't have 1000 members, everyone working on the JDK pay 2.50 monthly (or, as Oracle suppose, you the boss pay for them). So, a team of 10 people pay 25 dollars monthly, 300 dollars by year.

The CORE voice refer to servers and terminals, not your case I suppose.

Way cheaper than I thought. My next question is, how long would the sub be required for? The entire development life of the project, or just the months during which actual coding is being done? Because there is sometimes downtime waiting for the artists.

It's a monthly fee. After that, obviously, is forbidden any active use of the technology.
Well, is hard to explain, but practically speaking you're "renting" the use, so if for some months you don't use the technology you don'thave to pay for. The active use and installation is what you pay for.

Don't take my words as law as we're entering legal terms and obviously I don't want such responsibility :).
