After updating Ren'Py to 7.4.0, I decided to try using the new model-based renderer using the GL2 flag. This seemed to improve a lot of things in most cases, but I have noticed an issue in one of my projects: title screen ATL on Android devices.
Here's the situation:
- The title screen has several images that are shown using "add [image] at [transform] with dissolve" (or easeinX)
- On PC, these animations properly display on startup and when returning to the title screen from the game. (The animation does not play when returning from load/config from the main menu.)
- On Android without the GL2 flag and before 7.4.0, the animations seemed to play the same way as on PC.
- On Android with the GL2 flag on 7.4.0, the screen seems to freeze right after the splash image. When it begins to render again, it displays images without transitions, but sometimes in the intended order of delays. The animations display properly when returning to the title screen from the game.
I assume the main culprit here is the GL2 flag and the new renderer, but I haven't explicitly tested 7.4.0 on its own. Perhaps the renderer isn't fully turned on when my title screen code tries to run? Is the old renderer preferred for Android devices for the time being?
